Judge Mparany Mamy Richard Rajohnson (Madagascar)

Judge Mparany Mamy Richard Rajohnson, born in 1948, joined the Tribunal in January 2009 as ad litem Judge in Trial Chamber I.

Judge Rajohnson was the Secretary General in the Ministry of Justice in Madagascar, when he was elected to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in 2003. Subsequently, he served as the Attorney General of the Court of Appeal of Antananarivo. He had previously worked for several years in senior positions in the Ministry of Justice, including as the Head of the Department for the Supervision of Courts and Detention Facilities in Madagascar. Prior to this, Judge Rajohnson was a judge and doyen d'instruction at the Tribunal of Antananarivo. He has a Diplôme (Postgraduate degree) from the Judicial Studies Institute and Licence (Bachelor’s degree) in private law from the Antananarivo University.

Judge Rajohnson, who is also a Knight of the Malagasy National Order and of the Order of Merit of Madagascar, has since 1997 been an instructor of magistrates in training at the National School for Magistrates and Clerks. He has also participated in several national and international professional training sessions and seminars.
